MCC Noon Institute talk: Conrad’s Heart of Darkness and the Congo Holocaust

September 6, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness is a literary masterpiece and a landmark of modern fiction, chronicling a journey down the Congo River and into the depths of the human soul. But the novel is also a protest against what became the first holocaust of the 20th century, resulting in the de facto slavery, unspeakable atrocities and deaths of millions of Africans. We’ll look at the novel as a work of fiction and a historical record of the world’s great tragedies.
