Connecticut in the Poems of Wallace Stevens

Noon Institute – Manchester Community College

We know that Stevens walked to work through the streets of Hartford but there is a lot of Hartford—and Connecticut—in his poems, too. We’ll look at “The River of Rivers in Connecticut,”  “Of Hartford in a Purple Light” and “An Ordinary Evening in New Haven” as well as other poems that have some unexpected, local flavor.
